Vibraphonist Nick Mancini is a communicator. His music tells a story, you might say, both within each song and over the course of this new album.
The title track asks what a "Storyteller" does. If he's a Raymond Chandler or a Nick Mancini, he ponders; he describes; he suggests impending trials; he makes fine distinctions between manliness and sensitivity; he leads you down emotional trails and leaves you at a spot from which you can look back and appreciate the whole trip.
Listen all the way to the end, and you'll find that Mancini's story, well as it has been told, does not resolve. It isn't over. His story plays out in an eternal present. This is what being tuned-in sounds like.
